18 Extension of Coverage under COBRA Continuation Coverage (COBRA) The right to COBRA Continuation Coverage was created by a federal law, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA). COBRA Continuation Coverage can become available to you when you otherwise lose your group health coverage. It also can become available to your Spouse and Eligible Dependent Child who are covered under the Plan at the time they would otherwise lose their coverage. This continuation of coverage under the Plan is a temporary extension of coverage, with a period of coverage that is determined by the type of event (qualifying event) that would otherwise trigger your loss of coverage (or loss of coverage for your Spouse and/or Eligible Dependent Child). This continuation of coverage is provided in addition to the Plan Provided Continuation of Coverage Benefit noted on the next page. To be enrolled in the Plan under COBRA Continuation Coverage, you, your Spouse or Eligible Dependent Child must elect to continue coverage, complete the election form, and submit the completed form to the Fund Office within the applicable time period. In addition, the monthly premiums must be paid on a timely basis and sent directly to the Fund Office. See Section on COBRA Continuation Coverage below for more details on this benefit.
